In 1962 I started a Commerce Degree at UNSW. Thanks to the likes of Yak
Hensley and Piggy Cranston, first year full time was far too easy. It gave
me time to discover many things which I should have found years earlier.
My CSR Scholarship required me to do the next two years part time. They were
a wonderful five years. I finally graduated with a full time year in 1968,
thanks largely to CSR's and UNSW's incredible patience.
I am still with CSR having, at various times, been the Commercial Manager
of most of its operating divisions.
The time includes stints in Queensland and at Gove in the Northern
Territory during CSR's forays into the resources industry. For the last few years I
have looked after Insurance for the company. This involves considerably
travel which normally includes being in England at some time during the
northern Rugby season. Twickenham is a great place to be, specially for a
keen Australian Rugby supporter.
I married Fran in 1972 and we are still happily together. We have two boys.
Stuart (26) is a Sports Science graduate and half way through a
Physiotherapy degree at Sydney Uni. Peter (24) is a Mechanical Engineer,
working in an engineering consultancy at Chatswood. We are all keen
sailors and skiers, some more proficient than others.
It has been good to run into a few Old Falconians over the years and I am
looking forward very much to October 20.
